The Alternative American is the first in a series of editorial publications that explore American identities. Volume One juxtaposes two narrative articles written by Wesley Morris for The New York Times, and is designed to highlight the intersections and the contradictions between them.

This print experience challenges readers to physically participate by lifting the inserts to reveal the text underneath, encouraging them to navigate back and forth between the contrasting articles.
